Why 'QP' ?
The name of our 'QP' software family actually started life as 'Quick Presenter' then just 'QPresenter'. Over time this became shortened to 'QP' and the name stuck. However, the name has given rise to a certain amount of folklore amongst users, so here are a couple of examples.
Some people think the 'Q' in 'QPshare' is shorthand for the 'Cue' that comes from the world of theatre, radio, film and television. 'Q' is often to be found in drama and film scripts, where you see entries such as QSFX (meaning Cue the Special Effects - sound of breaking glass, explosions etc), or QVT (meaning cue the videotape machine) or 'Q Presenter' (meaning you - you're on!)
Then there are those who believe that the 'Q' in QPshare comes from the character in Ian Fleming's James Bond novels. 'Q' (played by the late Desmond Llewellyn and more recently John Cleese) is the man who supplies James with all the special equipment - everything from his favorite Walther PPK automatic to the Aston Martin; mostly items of a deadly nature - apart from the extra-dry martinis. In his case 'Q' is actually short for 'Quartermaster' the man in charge of equipment stores in the armed forces.
Both explanations are wrong but, being keen on gizmos and gadgets of all kinds, we do hope our 'Swiss Army knife' of a presentation server will appeal to James Bond fans and other cool front-men everywhere.
